Description:

Up for sale is our 1985 Volkswagon Vanagon GL Westfalia camper. The van has 117,000 miles on the original 1.9l water cooled motor. It has spent its life in Georgia and South Carolina. The van drives great and up to a month ago, was a daily driver. It has a clean GA title and passed emissions this year after replacing the muffler and cat converter. It is a four speed with full camping setup and air conditioning. There is a fifth seat that slides in behind the passenger seat. This year, I replaced the stock shocks and springs. I used H&R springs and gas charged shocks. This lowered that van about 2 inches and made it much safer on the highway. It cut down on the body roll greatly. It also made the mileage go from 17.5 to 19.5 in the city.
Interior: The interior is in nice shape. The curtains are 2 years old. The floor mats and interior carpeting are new from GoWesty.com. The front seats and console are made by Bestop. They still turn and recline, they are just 10 times more comfortable than original. I installed a Sony stereo with CD and Ipod plug 2 years ago.
Exterior: There are a few dents on the van, but not a spot of rust. There is a picture of the dent infront of the rear driver side tire. The hubcaps are from a 77 model that was put out to pasture. The headlights were replaced with Hella H4 reflectors and bulbs. They are now very bright at night.
Drivetrain: With only 117,000 miles, the original motor runs great. In the last 3 years we have replaced the following:
Front brakes
Muffler, cat converter, tailpipe, and collector pipe from GoWesty.com
Clutch
CV shafts
Many misc air conditioning components and swapped to R134 freon
Tires by Toyo
Shocks
Springs by H&R
Battery
Camping Equip: We have spent quite a few nights camping and have taken good care of the equipment. The propane system was leak checked last year. It had never been used before then. The water tank was flushed and cleaned. It had never been used either. The fridge works great, but I have never tried to run it on propane. The skylight was replaced with a much better unit from GoWesty. The pop-top was replaced with GoWesty’s marine canvas one. It is great and has 3 windows. All new rubber seals were replaced on the top this year. We will include a new, never used awning from BusDepot.com. A portable toilet is included (don’t worry, it has never been used)
What it needs:
The air conditioning only works on the highest fan speed. Looks like the fan is going.
The left front blinker doesn’t work. I replaced the socket, but it must be shorting out.
The left front window crank handle knob fell off.
The front grill is cracked around the headlights.
Reserve is $7500. The van is located in Marietta, Ga and you are welcome to come drive it.
